EPALE Study Visit to Athens: Sharing Good Practices and Strengthening European Cooperation

PRESS RELEASE

The State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), as the EPALE National Support Service in Greece, hosted representatives of the National Support Services (NSS) of Italy, Finland and Ireland in Athens from 30 September to 2 October 2026. The study visit focused on sharing good practices, strengthening cooperation between the services, and exploring EPALE’s role in adult education and lifelong learning.

During the first two days, meetings and presentations were held at IKY on EPALE’s implementation and future planning in Greece, its communication strategy, and the work of the corresponding services in the three countries. Discussions focused on sharing tools and methodologies, addressing common challenges, and exploring opportunities for cooperation between the NSS and the Erasmus+ National Agencies in the fields of Adult Education and Vocational Education and Training.

Visits to the National Library of Greece and ALMA on Friday, 2 October 2026 were a key part of the programme. Participants had the opportunity to learn about educational approaches and practices developed through the two organisations’ participation in Erasmus+.

At the National Library of Greece, located at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, participants attended a presentation of the mobility project implemented by the Library under its Erasmus+ accreditation. This was followed by a guided tour of the Library’s premises, which left a particularly positive impression on the NSS representatives.

The programme continued with a visit to the offices of ALMA, a non-profit association supporting people with intellectual disabilities. The NSS representatives learned about the organisation’s educational model and the teaching methods incorporated into its work through its participation in Erasmus+.

By hosting this study visit, IKY strengthens European dialogue on adult education and the exchange of practices that promote quality and inclusion in learning.
