State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) was founded in 1951 with the aim to offer young scientists grants for post-graduate studies, initially only abroad and later in Greece too, in order to broaden their horizons, utilize their skills and offer better services to our society.
IKY has a long history in contributing to the promotion of education, science, language and civilization as well as in their emergence in contemporary society, under the spectrum of the demands imposed by the international settings.
In the framework of its activities, as a State Scholarships Agency, it plans, announces and implements every year an amplitude of scholarship programmes both in Greece and abroad. Through these programmes Greek citizens, foreigners of greek origin, people of different nationalities, pupils, students, scientists, researchers and artists receive grants in order to acquire higher diplomas in Greece or abroad and to stand out scientifically and professionally.
The State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) established the innovative “2+2” Scholarships Programme which rewards excellence in the most meaningful way. Post-graduate studies are directly linked to the labour market and excellent specialised young scientists are employed in the field of their studies by top enterprises and organisations in Greece. The National Bank of Greece participates in the pilot “2+2” Programme implemented by IKY, offering one hundred (100) jobs to IKY scholars, scientists attending post-graduate studies’ programmes in Greece, practically contributing to linking education to the labour market. The programme is expected to be expanded in all fields during the academic year 2015/16.
The Foundation also collaborates with European Associations (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst-DAAD, CERN. European Institute of Florence, the Hellenic College Holy Cross) for the common development of programmes enhancing research mobility as well as policies in the field of international co-operation.
IKY is located in Leoforos Ethnikis Antistaseos 42, Nea Ionia.
