European Innovative Teaching Award (EITA) – European Language Label (ELL)

What is the European Innovative Teaching Award (EITA)?

The European Innovative Teaching Award (EITA) is an initiative launched in 2021 within the framework of the European Education Area. Its aim is to highlight examples of good teaching practices implemented under the Erasmus+ Programme and to recognize the work of teachers and schools.

In Greece, the organization of the awards is carried out in cooperation with the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), the National Agency for Erasmus+, which plays a central role in identifying and selecting high-quality European projects in the fields of school education and vocational education and training. Each year, the award focuses on a specific theme aligned with the priorities of the European Commission.

The EITA is awarded in five categories:

  1. Early Childhood Education
  2. School Education
  3. Vocational Education and Training (VET)
  4. Adult Education
  5. European Language Label (ELL)

What is the European Language Label (ELL)?

The European Language Label (ELL) is an initiative of the European Commission in the field of multilingualism. It aims to promote innovative methods of language teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of improving the overall quality of language education across Europe.

The ELL is an award granted to organizations that successfully develop tools and implement teaching methods which can serve as good practices and be adapted to different linguistic and educational contexts.

From 2025 onwards, the European Language Label (ELL) is merged with the European Innovative Teaching Award (EITA).

The State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), as the National Agency for Erasmus+ in the fields of Education and Training, awards the European Language Label (ELL) distinction to Erasmus+ projects that have indicated, during the final reporting process, their interest in being considered for the ELL distinction. In addition to the organization receiving the EITA in the “ELL” category, IKY also awards two additional ELL distinctions at national level.
